17:00 The group arrived in the New Forest and checked into Careys Manor Hotel, Brockenhurst.
The New Forest played a very important part in the allied preparations for the D-Day landings. Mulberry Harbour sections were built at Lepe and on the Beaulieu river and huge concentrations of troops and equipment were hidden in and around the New Forest prior to embarkation to Normandy. In fact one or two of the veterans in our group had been stationed in the New Forest in 1944. It seemed the perfect place to begin our journey...
19:00 The entire group enjoyed a three-course dinner at the New Forest hotel followed by live entertainment from London-based band Five Star Swing.
