On the afternoon of Sunday June 7th the D-DAY REVISITED group visited St. Mère Église, a town made famous by the scenes of the parachute landing as later depicted in the film 'The Longest Day'.
After a visit to the C47 museum the group was requested to walk down to the C47 café to see the exact point where the first American parachutist landed in a garden 65 years before. The response was unanimous, “We don’t walk. We march!”
Parading down the street to the C47 café, the veterans received such a warm welcome from local people and tourists alike. It was very moving to witness such appreciation for these men and what they achieved. Many commented they felt like celebrities when they were asked repeatedly for their autographs!
17:30 The entire group enjoyed a champagne buffet in Sainte-Mère-Église kindly organised by D-Day Battle Tours. The veterans then drove east along the coast to visit Omaha beach at sunset.
20:00 Return to hotel
