66th anniversary

66th ANNIVERSARY

This year’s Normandy Visit took place during the period Thursday 3rd through to Wednesday 9th June. The total number in the group was 151 - departing from Ellesmere Port, Chester & Runcorn in three matching coaches.

The party included 77 WW2 veterans, almost all of whom landed on or near those famous beaches of Normandy in June 1944. Our veterans came from North Wales, Chester & Wirral, Liverpool, Lancashire, Derbyshire, Cumbria, Weston super Mare & Edinburgh. Some landed by parachute, some in gliders and of course the majority by sea... a little queasy from the journey and keen to wade ashore.                                                                                     Included in the party are several other veterans who served in varying theatres of war and these are equally welcome. Mindful that age has wearied some of them, at least two medical attendants along with two serving Paras are included on each of the three coaches.

In headline this year’s visit included:
Saturday 5th June - Pegasus Bridge, Merville Battery and Thury Harcourt.
Sunday 6th June - Bayeux Cathedral & Cemetery Services
Colleville-Montgomery & Arromanches.
Monday 7th June -
American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer & beaches, parade & reception at Sainte Mère Église.
Tuesday 8th June - Evrecy, Hill 112, Fonteney-le-Pesnel & Tilly-sur-Seulles.

A full report, with photographs a-plenty, will be published on this web site soon.
